Auster is the newest entrant into the crowded e-juice subscription box market. Auster brings a unique take on e-juice subscriptions by delivering curated boxes of four bottles of e-juice packaged with original art designed in collaboration with a variety of professional artists from around the world.
How does Auster compare with more established competitors? Are their beautiful, unique subscription boxes worth the money?
Let’s take an in depth look and find out.
What’s in the box?
Unlike the utilitarian appearance of other subscription boxes (like Zamplebox), Auster goes out of their way to produce unique boxes that give off an artistic, high-end appearance. Each of their boxes are designed in collaboration with artists and include four bottles of e-juice, along with a variety of non-vaping items that are designed to give each box a unique vibe.
Ashrant Bhartia, founder of the brand, seems like he wants to bring an element of (much needed) culture and art to the vaping world:
Every time you see a show or travel to a new place it’s a powerful cultural experience. We wanted the boxes to capture this expression of beauty and creativity and for each delivery to subscribers to be meaningful [and include] an element of surprise. Experiences—be they positive or negative—make us the people we are. Through our network of collaborators, we will provide curated experiences that think outside the box.
What kind of items can you expect in your subscription box? Each box is unique, and it’s likely that future months will have completely different accessories. But just so you can get an idea of what to expect when you open up your first Auster box, this month’s Cyber “Explorer Box” includes a micro-fiber cleaning cloth, custom silk scarf, Daneson toothpicks, and a collector’s postcard. It also includes a custom art booklet. All of these are in addition to the four 30mL Cypher (Auster’s sub-brand) e-juice bottles.
Every aspect of this particular box was designed in collaboration with Berlin-based artist Sam Chirnside.
How it works
To subscribe to Auster, go to their website and click on the “Subscribe” button at the top. You’ll be presented with a four step process to select your personal subscription.
In the first step you select your flavor profile. This month gives you a choice between the following juice companies: Charlie’s Chalk Dust, Cypher, Vape Kitchen, or NKTR. Cypher is Auster’s own house brand and the four flavors I tried were all top-notch. The other three are all well-known brands in the vaping community. You won’t be disappointed no matter which one you chose.
The second step allows you to choose your nicotine level. The only three options are 0mg, 3mg, and 6mg. At the moment there is no ability to choose a higher nicotine level, so if that’s something that you’re interested in then you’ll have to look elsewhere. But if you’re satisfied with one of these lower nic levels then choose one and move on to the next step.
The third step allows you to choose your subscription length. You can choose from month-to-month, 3 months, 6 months, or 12 months. The longer you choose, the cheaper your monthly subscription. For example, month-to-month costs $55 per month, while the cheapest is the 12 month subscription clocking in at $40 per month.
In the fourth and final step you’ll be given the ability to review your selection before checking out. Click the checkout button and you’re good to go! The subscription process couldn’t be any easier and is extremely quick.
Bottom line
Auster is another worthy competitor to some of the more established e-juice subscription brands. I believe that their beautifully designed boxes, unique accessories, and collaborations with artists help to set them apart from the other subscription services. If you’re more of an artistic type and appreciate the finer things in life, Auster is the ultimate lifestyle brand that will help to introduce you to some of the best e-juice flavors on the market.
