Overview and Methodology
We grade e-juice using four different metrics:
- Vapor Production
Learn more about how each of these factors influences our final rating for each product and how they help you to make an informed and educated decision about which e-liquids you purchase.
Vapor Vanity readers value getting the most bang for their buck. For that reason, we want to make sure that companies are pricing their products fairly. Prices should be comparable to other brands of similar quality. If the product is significantly more expensive without any differentiating factors, then we will give it a much lower score.
Flavor is one of the most important factors that we use to calculate the final score for any brand of e-juice. Taste is obviously the main differentiating factor between brands, which is why we have strict standards for e-juice flavoring. We judge the taste of e-juice by the following criteria:
- Quality of flavor – E-juice flavors should be unique and complex. We like one-of-a-kind flavors that feature subtle combinations. The flavors shouldn’t taste “cheap” or one-note. The flavor should not taste exactly the same as every other similar brand.
- Quantity of flavors – We like companies that offer a variety of different flavors. Each consumer has a unique taste pallet. Some people like tobacco flavors while others prefer fruity flavors. Some like sweet dessert e-juices while others want breakfast flavored liquid. If a company can accommodate as many different customer taste preferences as possible then we will give that e-juice a high rating.
For better or worse, cloud chasing is here to stay. Most of our readers here at Vapor Vanity are looking for e-liquid that maximizes the amount of vapor they can produce. If a brand of e-juice is competition-worthy and creates huge clouds with ease, we’ll give it a high rating. Obviously this is context-dependent. We’ll take the PG/VG ratio and all other relevant factors into consideration to ensure that we’re giving a fair and accurate score on this point.
This is the most subjective factor that we use when grading e-juice. The metric we use when grading the quality of an e-liquid is: how does it make us feel? Some juices just feel “cheap”. That can be caused by poor quality packaging, simplistic flavors, inconsistency between different bottles of the same flavor, etc.
The bottom line is: if a company puts maximum effort behind their product, then they will get a maximum star rating for the “quality” metric. If they half-ass it, our final score will reflect that.
