The Aegis is one of the newest shielded 100W TC box mods from GeekVape. Historically GeekVape has basically been an after-ran in the crowded mod marketplace. But they’ve been putting out some seriously amazing products in the past year or so. If you’re a dedicated vaper you definitely owe it to yourself to check out the Aegis and other products from GeekVape.
Appearance
Included in the package with the Aegis; you receive the mod itself, instruction manual, 18650 battery adapter, extra silicone film, spare screws, and a micro-USB cable. The micro-USB port is a bit tricky to find, but it’s located on the top of the mod and is covered up. You’ll need to unscrew the protective covering to unveil the micro-USB port (don’t worry, it took me way longer to find it than I’d like to admit).
The first thing I noticed when I took the GeekVape Aegis out of the box is that it has a seriously high-end, robust feel to it. It’s a bit heavy compared to other box mods, and it’s built like a main battle tank. It feels like I can throw this box mod against a brick wall, pick it up and start vaping again (wouldn’t recommend trying it, but it certainly feels possible!).
The ergonomics of this device are pretty amazing. It feels like it’s constructed out of a mix of leather, metal, and silicone. This mixture of materials gives it a very high-end, premium feel that a lot of other box mods lack these days. It’s clear that GeekVape built the Aegis to last a lifetime.
The battery features a screwed cap, which could be a pro or a con depending on your personal preferences. The downside is that it takes a little bit longer to open, but the plus side is that you can rest easy knowing that your batteries are completely secure (i.e. the battery door won’t pop out and drop your batteries while you’re vaping).
The GeekVape logo as well as the name, Aegis, are both etched into all the metal parts of the mod. It looks super-cool and the branding isn’t too obnoxious. If you’re like me and hate things that have huge logos on them you’ll still be comfortable vaping with this mod.
Performance
If you couldn’t tell by the list of contents, the GeekVape Aegis requires a single-26650 battery for normal operation. However they do include an adapter for 18650 batteries, so you don’t necessarily have to go out and buy a 26650-sized one if you don’t want to. It works perfectly with a single-18650.
To turn the Aegis on or off, simply press the fire button 5 times. You’ll see a lightning bolt flash across the screen. Afterwards, you’ll see the main menu.
Click the fire button three more times and you’ll go straight to another screen where you can change the settings. Use the fire button to scroll and the wattage buttons to to scroll sideways. Super easy.
The maximum wattage output is 100W, which is more than enough for most vapers. I found that I got the best performance between 50W-70W, but your performance may vary depending on how you like to vape. If you’re a hardcore high-wattage vaper, you may want to pass on this one since it’s only capable of firing at up to 100W. But for the rest of us, that’s more than enough power to get us decent clouds and good flavor.
The max voltage output is 9V. This is phenomenal for vapers who want to vape at higher resistance levels. The temp control is easy to fine tune, and gives you options depending on which type of coil you’re using.
The GeekVape Aegis fires as soon as you press the firing button, without any noticeable delay. In my opinion this is the best feature of this mod. I personally can’t stand any lag time when vaping. Even a half-second feels like an eternity and is enough to make me want to stop using a particular device. Two thumbs up to the GeekVape team for that.
Bottom Line
The GeekVape Aegis is a solid entry in the crowded world of box mods. We’re all spoiled for choice in 2017, so sometimes it’s tough to get over that analysis paralysis and just pull the trigger on a mod. The bottom line is, if you’re looking for a well-rounded box mod that is basically future-proof, you can’t go wrong with the GeekVape Aegis.
