Our posts about mechanical mod explosions are consistently ranked as some of our most visited pages. Obviously this is something that lots of vapers are concerned about, so I’ve created a handy-dandy list of things that will cause you to blow up while vaping so that you don’t have to read about your own explosion incident on VaporVanity one of these days.
You may blow a hole in your face while vaping with a mechanical mod if….
Your battery wrapper is broken
Don’t be cheap, get a new battery.
The battery has any kind of physical damage (dents, etc.)
Same as above.
You are sub-ohming with a hybrid mechanical mod
Don’t do it. You probably shouldn’t even use a hybrid to begin with unless you’re a super duper vape nerd who just wants to try every type of vape there is, in which case you’ll probably have enough knowledge to not cause an explosion.
You are sub-ohming without checking your coils using a multimeter
Multimeters are not expensive and as a bonus, not only will you avoid blowing your face off, you’ll also get better performance since you won’t be guessing any more.
The air holes on your mod are blocked or you are using a shitty mod that doesn’t have air holes (do they even make those?)
You need air holes to allow the gasses to dissipate, otherwise BOOM!
You don’t know the max discharge rate of your batteries
Make sure that your battery is rated with a high enough amp level for the ohm resistance of your coil. And if you have no idea what the fuck I’m talking about, you should not vape until you read up on battery safety. Also you should have paid attention during science class.
You overcharge your batteries
While it seems like almost every explosion is caused by dangerously low sub-ohm vaping, overcharging batteries can in rare cases also cause them to burst.
You let batteries touch each other or metal objects
Not totally relevant since this won’t cause your mod to explode in your face, but it will cause a fire, which can really suck if you put the batteries in your pocket with your keys or loose change.
I’m typing this at 1AM and I’m sure that there’s many other things that can cause you to blow your face off with a mech mod that I’m forgetting, so if you think of anything let me know in the comments.
Of course, you can avoid most of these problems by using a regulated mod, which have built in safety features. They’re completely retard-proof! Mechanical mods can be perfectly safe if you put your thinking cap on and make sure that you follow safety precautions. BUT if you’re one of those people who has become too accustomed to our nerf-ball world where everything is built with safety in mind and you don’t want to do the proper research, DON’T BUY A MECH MOD! You might think cloud chasing is cool, but it’s not worth it if you blow up your own face.

If all of this seems confusing, it might be easier to use something simpler. The Juul is one of the most popular small, portable, e-cigarettes on the market. No need to worry about multimeters or discharge rates. Read our review of the Juul here.
