Have you heard of Koi?
It’s a California-based company that manufactures cannabidiol, commonly called CBD, made from a hemp plant.
Now, don’t get this confused with marijuana. CBD is a plant extract that does not contain THC, which is what produces a “high.”
CBD is legal, available without a medical marijuana card and is being manufactured by many companies. It won’t alter your mental status and it won’t make you fail a drug test.
Koi sent me five flavors to try, all at 500 mg.
I personally have anxiety issues and chronic pain, both issues CBD is touted to improve. And my husband is a combat-wounded veteran with severe post traumatic stress disorder. PTSD is a mental issue that causes many daily issues. He also has physical issues including chronic pain from compressed and herniated discs.
We’ve tried other CBD products in the past, such as Hemp Bombs, with varying results.
I received a White Koi (flavorless tank additive), Gold Koi (vanilla caramel custard), Red Koi (strawberry milkshake), Blue Koi (blue raspberry dragonfruit) and Jade Koi (watermelon green apple sour).
To give the flavored CBD a fair shot I used clean coils in my Cleito 120 tanks and clean cotton in my Recoil RDA. I usually pair my tanks with my Sigelei Fuchai 213 or my Smok X cube II, just to give you an idea of what I’m working with.
Let me start with the flavors.
The Jade Koi, watermelon green apple sour, by and large, was my favorite. The flavor was strong, didn’t diminish as I continued to vape and packed a punch. It was one of the best vape flavors I’ve had at all, I would not have known it was a CBD oil and not a regular vape juice.
I’m not a dragonfruit fan, so I was reluctant to try this one, even though I really enjoy blue raspberry. I was pleasantly surprised by the blend. Blue raspberry definitely dominated Blue Koi and was a treat for the taste buds.
While I enjoy a good sour flavor and fruity juices, I’m big on dessert flavors.
Unfortunately I was disappointed in the Gold Koi (vanilla caramel custard) and Red Koi (strawberry milkshake). Each only had a hint of the described flavor and both had a strong, chemical-like aftertaste. While these weren’t favorites, both are still worth keeping. They aren’t “unvapeable”, they just didn’t do it for me. If the flavor had been as strong as the others, without the yucky after taste (the kind that makes you want to wipe your tongue off), these would have ranked up much higher in my book.
I tried each of the flavors in both tanks and drippers. The quality of the taste was consistent with both. I had hoped that perhaps a dripper, with a more direct hit would improve the vanilla caramel custard and strawberry milkshake, but it didn’t do it for me. But again, that’s my take on it. We all have different taste buds, so go with what works for you.
The flavorless additive was nice because it didn’t really change the flavor of my juice like other CBD has done. Don’t get me wrong, I could tell something was different, but not in a bad way. I think it was more because the juice was slightly more diluted.
Now, onto how Koi CBD impacted our bodies.
As I said, I have anxiety issues and I deal with chronic abdominal pain. I take daily prescribed medications to try to keep both in check, and at the same I also end up taking over the counter things, just to remain functional.
After one day of running a tank of Koi CBD 500 mg and a second tank of my regular vape juice with a dropper of the Koi flavorless additive I saw and felt results. Before I go further let me claify that I used both because I still like my nicotine. With the additive I got both CBD and nicotine, which for a vaper like me is an important thing.
Now, what changes did I see? I saw that I wasn’t reaching for the medicine cabinet for ibuprofen and Biofreeze. I wasn’t reaching for essential oils to calm my racing heart or lower my blood pressure. I’m not on blood pressure medicine, because it isn’t that bad yet. But when my anxiety gets crazy I have physical issues, such as pain in my chest, high blood pressure, dizziness and shortness of breath. My anxiety is usually a daily battle to just push through it and get life done.
I live in an extremely stressful and constantly changing world, being caregiver to my husband, who as I mentioned with a combat-wounded veteran who has not been the same since he was wounded in Afghanistan. We also have three young children. It’s always something, sometimes that something is good, others its bad. And many days its just a roller coaster ride back and forth between good and bad.
The Koi CBD drastically helped keep that daily roller coaster ride in the station. I was able to keep my cool, keep my heart from racing and just take a deep breath when needed.
And the chronic pain disappeared and it actually took me a while (days) to notice it was gone. As, with anything else, some days are better than others, it took a few for me to realize that I didn’t need over the counter meds to dull it. It wasn’t a matter of dulling it, it was gone.
Let me just say wow to thank. For these two issues along I’m happy to continue to use Koi CBD.
Let me tell you about how the Koi CBD affected my husband. He doesn’t regularly vape, so I just set him up with a tank with a dedicated Koi flavor. Within 12 hours he said to me that he felt calmer and more at peace. He hasn’t noticed an impact on his chronic pain, but just helping with the mental issues is a huge thing for us. Anyone who knows anyone with PTSD knows that you will try just about anything to help, even just a little. We’ve tried just about everything. Some things work for a while and then become less effective. Right now we are seven days into using watermelon green apple sour (also his favorite) and still seeing mental benefits.
