Zamplebox is a monthly e-juice subscription service that offers boxes of premium American-made e-juice according to your personal flavor preferences, with prices at least 40% less than retail.
Subscription box services are definitely trending in the business world these days, with almost every consumer industry having their own version. The e-juice industry is no exception. But is the Zamplebox subscription service worth it? Do they have a good juice selection or are their boxes filled with duds? How does it compare to other brands like Vape Box? Read on to find out.
Building your box
The first thing that you’ll do when you decide to try out Zamplebox for the first time is to “build your box”. While you don’t get to choose your exact juices (what would be the fun in that?) what you do get to do is inform Zamplebox of your preferences and let them do the hard work of actually selecting the e-juices that conform to those preferences.
The first step is to let them know whether you consider yourself a beginner, intermediate, or advanced vaper.
To be honest I’m not entirely sure what effect that this has on the final product, since I clicked on all three and they all led me down the same rabbit hole. But I chose “advanced”. Not trying to sound too conceited or anything, but I think at this point I qualify as being fairly knowledgeable about vaping.
The next step is to select your flavor profile from among four broad categories: Dessert, fruit, menthol, and tobacco. You can toggle between “yes” and “no” for all four categories.
I chose “yes” for all three with the exception of menthol. Nothing against menthol but I’d rather avoid it if I can.
After selecting your flavor profile you’ll then move on to a screen that will allow you to choose from among 300 flavors that you absolutely want to avoid. Don’t be shy, this is the time to let them know what you really don’t like so you don’t have it unexpectedly show up in your box.
After choosing which flavors you hate you then get to the fun part: choosing from among 300 flavors that you love and want to have show up in your subscription box.
As you can see I’m a big fan of creamy/custardy flavors as well as fruit flavors.
Up next comes the screen to select your nicotine strength. At this screen you also have the option to request a preference for high VG liquid, which can limit the amount of juices to choose from but if you’re a cloud-chasing fiend then you’ll obviously want to make sure that this option is toggled to “yes”.
And finally, last but not least, you choose your size. You can choose from platinum for $44.99 (11 bottles), gold for $24.99 (6 bottles), or silver for $19.99 (3 bottles).
As you can see, I went with platinum as it provides the most bang for your buck. If you’re really on a budget you might want to opt for one of the smaller sizes.
After choosing your box size you’ll be taken to a screen where you can choose to get a sneak peak of the exact flavors you’ll be receiving. If you’re lame enough to not take a chance, you still only get to see four of them, so the other seven will still be a mystery.
Once you either skip that step or choose to see four of the flavors you’ll be receiving, you’ll be sent to the checkout page. The whole process takes no more than 2 or 3 minutes and is actually a pretty fun experience.
The box itself arrived five days after ordering.
Included in the box were the 11 bottles of juice, a couple stickers, a little card where you can take a picture of your favorite flavors, and a tasting menu.
The presentation of the juice is top-notch and definitely builds your anticipation. The hardest part is deciding which one to try first.
The juice is well protected during shipping by the foam material that you can see in the picture. The top layer has six bottles of juice and the bottom layer has the remaining five. None of the bottles were damaged in the shipping.
Now normally you would expect a subscription box service like this to have a couple of good flavors and then pad the rest with duds. I was pleasantly surprised to find that all of the flavors were from high-end, well-respected brands.
Moreover, they all conformed to the flavor preferences that I had previously chosen. I would sum up my flavor profile as being a mix of custard, dessert, tobacco, and fruit. Here are the juices that I received:
- Kilo E Liquids – Dewberry Cream (honeydew and berry cream)
- G2 Vapor – El Blacco (creamy blackberry tobacco)
- Electric Lotus – Equalizer (lemon creme brulee and banana cream cheesecake)
- 13th Floor Elevapors – Levitation (blueberry muffin milkshake)
- Chance of Clouds – Stargaze (guava fused cream)
- Source Code – Wanna Cookie? (gingerbread cookie custard)
- 13th Floor Elevapors – Django (vanilla, caramel, and flue cured tobacco)
- Seduce Juice – Epiphany (Nutty spiced tobacco)
- Sabor Vapors Premier Cloud Drippin Liquid – Juicy Cowgirl (mild tobacco blend)
- Vapegurt – Patsy (sweet peach yogurt)
- Sabor Vapors Premier Cloud Drippin Liquid – Top Hat (peanut butter custard with hazelnut and caramel)
So as you can see, the juices I received matched up fairly well with my flavor profile.
The coolest feature of Zamplebox is the included tasting menu. The folded menu is constructed from high quality paper and, much like the presentation of the box itself, does an excellent job of building anticipation before you actually try the flavors.
The menu lists the following information about each bottle of e-juice: flavor, flavor description, retail price, size, VG percentage, manufacturer, and where the juice was made.
The coolest part of the menu is that it lets you compare the retail value of the juice in your box with the amount that you actually spent on it. The retail value of my juice added up to $122, meaning that I saved $77. Zamplebox truly is a fantastic deal for someone who wants to expand their palate or learn about some of cool juices out there that they may be interested in without spending a ton of money.
Ok. So choosing my flavor profile was awesome. The box itself was awesome. But what if I want to cancel the service? Most of these types of companies make it a massive pain in the ass to cancel, hoping that you’ll decide that the recurring subscription fee is less painful then dealing with their cancellation process. So with dread I decided to attempt to figure out just how awful it would be to cancel Zamplebox.
I clicked the button on my dashboard to cancel subscription and…. that was it. I was taken to a page where I could give them my reason for canceling, which I skipped. Then the subscription was canceled. No need to call in and get the runaround from the “customer service” rep on the phone. No attempt to try to guilt me into staying. Just a couple clicks and my card wasn’t charged again. If you like the idea of a subscription box but you’re a little hesitant to sign up for something that’s going to keep charging your credit card, don’t be. You can cancel Zamplebox at any time with ease.
If you decide to stay and continue your subscription (why wouldn’t you? It’s awesome!) then you’ll receive an email where you can give the thumbs up or thumbs down (just like Pandora) to the juices you received, which gets added to the flavor preferences in your profile. So over time your Zamplebox will get even more personalized and aligned with your flavor profile as long as you keep upvoting and downvoting. How cool is that?
The bottom line is that Zamplebox really is worth the money. If you’re new to vaping and you want to learn which juices are going to be your new favorites, or if you’re an advanced vaper who wants to expand your palate to something different from what you normally vape, Zamplebox is a fantastic value. You’ll be receiving a wide variety of juices that conform to your unique preferences at over 40% off retail. The customer service and ability to cancel whenever you want makes this a risk-free investment in your attempt to perfect your vaping experience. Signing up for Zamplebox is literally a no-brainer and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone.
